  • Night is a big fan and has been playing for 2 years

    • Can be played quickly and expressively bc of game engine
    • Combos are creative and free flowing
    • Blindingly fast
    • Cannot queue commands
    • No input buffers

    • Analogous to real fighting in that playing from backfoot gets sloppy
    • Not on console but emulating in slippy with faster melee
  • Dashing around and shooting in/baiting
  • How to combat cheating?
    • Some client side hacks that could be seen as cheating

    • Can spend 200-300 controller

      • All buttons, no stick
        • Controversial, but too late to ban it

Rabbit Hole: A Look at Notion

  • Chair on using Notion:
    • Notion can substitute Jira and Nethub
    • Just type “/board” for a fresh Kanban
    • Can manage entire team and entire project with it
    • For daily- use day log archive or todo lists
    • Also uses bullet journal

    • Mix between webpage, datastore/database
    • Kanban view is really powerful
    • One challenge is that it’s not obvious what you can and cannot do
      • Permissions are one of the trickiest parts and one of the biggest pain points
      • Add individual by email to give permissions to edit rather than giving everyone permission

    • Difficult to collaborate on calendar and the team eventually used Google sheets for MetaFest coordination efforts

MetaGame Wiki Migration/Rebuild Discussion (11 June 2021)

Summary:

  • Talking through migration/rebuild of the MetaGame Wiki
  • Discussing pros/cons of different tech options (Docusaurus v2 with NetlifyCMS, Sanity)
  • Looking at next steps for an upgrade path to Docusaurus v2 (and integrating NetlifyCMS)

MetaGame Wiki

  • Plan is to potentially migrate Wiki to another platform (or determine how to rebuild the current Wiki)
    • One consideration is to be in The Game repo — looking into different approaches for doing this but this could get tricky with Sourcecred
  • Docusaurus v2 (now out of alpha) has several improvements — could upgrade our Docusaurus to fully use new features

Tech Options

  • Sanity is a good CMS but can get pretty expensive with multiple users
  • Docusaurus still a good choice due to the speed (especially Docusaurus v2)
  • One consideration to make before migration:
    • How would editing work with Sourcecred?
    • If someone is making edits in Markdown files into The Game repo it would be hard to differentiate these from code contributions
  • Can create new pages without needing to add to sidebar in Docusaurus v2
  • Docusaurus v2 fixes many issues with pages
    • Basically a React app with support for adding on docs, blog, etc.
  • Microfrontends can be a good fit for this project
    • Beneficial for our goals for the Wiki
    • Separately publish different components on different domains but render these together into a single frontend
    • Apps concept of MetaGame works very well with this — Raid Guild can publish an app that’s part of the MyMeta interface
      • All of the UI can be rendered within the MetaGame site but doesn’t need to be within the MG codebase
      • Components can be published on IPFS and provide permenant mini-components
  • jonathan_p recently built a site with Docusaurus v2 deployed to IPFS for Raid Guild Season 1 cohort with aim to make it into a cohort template (and eventually a web3 site template for DAOs)
    • Utilized the React Router page based routing to create pages outside of the docs and blogs and also integrated React components into MDX pages

Reasons for Migrating

  • Want to improve the writer/editor/contributor UX, especially for the Playbooks
  • Make it as smooth as possible to make new Playbooks and build in new features such as uploading, reacting
    • Need for interactivity such as uploads
    • Would these utilize MDX?
    • Through MDX we can integrate as much interactivity as needed into Playbooks
    • Could get tricky to edit via NetlifyCMS with MDX
  • Can pull in components from The Game repo especially since the component library is published as a package
  • Potential issues with integrating MDX with NetlifyCMS
    • How are these files and React imports maintained via NetlifyCMS?
    • How are components inserted via NetlifyCMS?
  • Currently, workflow is importing components into the MDX file, but how does this work for editors?
    • Is there a MDX widget for NetlifyCMS?
  • Sanity allows for custom components but gets pricy after 3 users
  • Can create custom plugin for NetlifyCMS if needed
    • Open source with several extensions
  • Everything we need could be built on top of this by creating custom components and a plugin on top of NetlifyCMS (if needed)

Upgrade Process For Current Wiki

  • Read the Docusaurus docs on upgrading and reconfiguring
  • Check out getting NetlifyCMS working so that writers can add playbooks with a smoother writing and editing UX
  • Look into how to improve the NetlifyCMS experience (with MDX support) and custom widgets
  • Can look into adding a web3 login to NetlifyCMS
  • NetlifyCMS will make contribution easier — can still review within GitHub but writing will be a more accessible process

    • Penguin that’s the first level, rather than forking it and making it our own. Figured out a way to leverage money and make money with it. Next step would be to implement it by taking the project from hackathon to staging/production.
    • What they did was used a local blockchain spun up with Brownie for testing. Allows you to deposit BTC, (badger bounty) and takes BTC deposited uses it on AAVE and takes a loan to leverage the money usually 3x but could go 10-11 and be healthyish.
      • Generates supply income off the balance that was deposited.
      • Then takes and AAVE token generated interest and sells it to buy wrapped BTC to pay back the loan to support withdraw.
      • Policy itself readjusts.
      • Gets pricefeed from Chainlink Oracle.
      • You put money in and it grows -> Money leverages itself to make more money.
      • Use case for metagame would be that ideally, we would be able to get some of our pool excess from Balancer v2 to generate additional wEth and then buy our LP token with the wETH.
      • Use 20% of profits to buy LP tokens and lock them
      • Then uses additional 10% to select random DAO to buy
      • Ideally use the liquidity in balancer pool to generate income
      • Which pool? Penguin seems to think Badger is the spot
  • Mint updates
    • During the process Alec and Michiel are now able to build the XP calculation.
    • Penguin was able to generate the merkle root.
    • Current centralized choke-point is the deployment to the UI.
      • Ran XP and created merkle root and able to get it updated
      • On most recent mint we still needed MetaDreamer to handle the Fleek deployment
    • Alec, Misanth, Michiel worked together for 4+ hours last week to help realize mint
    • Seed calculation that was minted from Aragon was 130 seeds more than the calculation
