Much of my view on mythology is based in the ideas of Jung:
Jung shaped the thoughts of later writers on myth such as Mircea Eliade (1907-86) and Joseph Campbell (1904-76) and James Hillman (1926-2011) all of whom have helps to solidify the importance of myth (and dreams) in the conscious / unconscious connection.
