Who are you, really? šŸ¤Ø

  • What brings you here, what do you most like about MetaGame?

I was always interested in alternative socioeconomic systems and always dreamed of building one. MetaGame is kind of everything I ever wanted to make, except I thought it would start from a physical community and weā€™re starting it from a fully digital project

  • What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

MetaGame is probably the most important thing Iā€™ll ever be working on.
In the past, I worked as a plumber, a gas pipes & central heating systems installer, audio producer & podcast manager, even an ICO analyst for an investment syndicate before being sure I have the right idea and deciding to execute on my dream.

  • What kind of things do you generally like doing?

To be completely honest, Iā€™m a fairly lazy person. I like laying in bed reading books & dreaming about the future for hours. In my defense, only 1 in 10-20 books I read is fiction. It is also what allowed me to conjure up something people really seem to like :upside_down_face:
The thing I seem most useful for right now is writing. Basically trying to synthesize every book I have been reading and random courses I have been taking into a path forward for humanity.
Other than that, I like to think Iā€™m useful design thinking, branding & incentive structure/game theory.

  • What makes you happy?

When people tag me message me or just state somewhere that MetaGame inspires them and they love it. It helps me think Iā€™m doing something useful. It would make me really happy if what we built here solved some of the worldā€™s problems & what makes me happy in the late night evening is smoking a joint & thinking about MetaGame. Climbing rocks on Sundays.

  • What do you want from MetaGame?

To focus on doing something useful. I really want it to impact peopleā€™s lives in a positive way and proceed with building this damn alternative economy (that revolves around well-being rather than money) in what people can just plug into ours or start their own civilization.

  • What do you offer in return?

Hours of my time that means nothing if Iā€™m not working on MetaGame.
Writing, motivating, connecting, coordinating or whatever other useful thing Iā€™m able to.

  • What brings you here, what do you most like about MetaGame?

I learned about MetaGame through @burrrata mentioning it on the SourceCred Discord; afterwards I read through @pethā€™s writings. I like the overall vision and intent, itā€™s a cool way of expressing the Web3 / open source society dream. I also like the memes!

  • What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

Iā€™m focused on [ SourceCred, where Iā€™m the Temporary Benevolent Dictator. Before starting SourceCred, I was the lead developer of two other open-source projects: TensorBoard and Plottable.js.

  • What kind of things do you generally like doing?

I quite enjoy programming, especially designing elegant APIs. I also find understanding organizational dynamics and emotional dynamics very interesting; I tend to be curious about conflicts people are in, and I like asking questions of both sides. At the moment Iā€™m mostly focused on being an effective leader for SourceCred, although I like to find time to code too.

  • What makes you happy?

Fulfilling relationships and a sense of purpose.

  • What do you want from MetaGame?

Iā€™m excited to see that MetaGame is adopting SourceCred, and look forward to hearing feedback and suggestions on how to improve the system from yā€™all. Also, Iā€™d like to learn from MetaGame as far as strategies for building/growing online communities (and shilling).

  • What do you offer in return, what are your skills?

I offer support in using and understanding SourceCred, which I think is a really important piece in creating decentralized yet economically self-sufficient communities.

  • What brings you here, what do you most like about MetaGame?

Iā€™m here because I believe that the way we as humans coordinate economic activity is broken. Before discovering Ethereum I was dreaming of stygmergicapitalistic organisations. Then I found Ethereum, then Colony, and now this.

  • What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

Iā€™m currently working on Blazar, a stable-rate DeFi protocol that won ETHLondon. It has an automated market maker that provides upfront interest payments to depositors and instant fixed-rate/fixed-term loans to borrowers. It also creates fungible ā€œfutureā€ tokens (fDai, fETHā€¦) that are redeemable at maturity.
Iā€™m proud to have co-founded Alice, a social DeFi protocol that helps people track the impact their money makes when funding social and environmental projects.

  • What kind of things do you generally like doing?

Hanging out with my family and watching my daughter grow. Building crazy things in DeFi and watching those grow. Reading Sci-Fi. Long-boarding. Pretending to play the guitar.

  • What makes you happy

All of the above!

  • What do you want from MetaGame?

I want to see where the experiment leads, see how this particular experiment in self-organisation can scale.

  • What do you offer in return?

I have a foundation in political science. Iā€™m an entrepreneur specialised in blockchain technology. I have a network, ideas and know-how.

Wait a minute!
If youā€™re running Sourcecred on Sourcecred, why/how are you still a dictator? :joy:

Either way, glad to have you here! If we keep on using Sourcecred (and it seems almost certain we will), I see MetaGame and Sourcecred growing together into one big family :slightly_smiling_face:

Meanwhile, I do have these concerns about Sourcecred :stuck_out_tongue:

Weā€™re using SourceCredā€™s scores as the source-of-truth for all compensation within SourceCred. (Weā€™ve actually flowed over $300k worth of Grain to contributors so far.) However, running SourceCred requires governance decisions, e.g. how to tune the relative weights for GitHub and Discourse. Right now, we donā€™t have a clear framework for how to make these governance decisions, and using something like cred-weighted voting is a bit fraught: if people are abusing the weights, then they will get more cred, which would give them more voting power, which would allow them to push the weights further in their direction, etc.

Iā€™m confident that we will develop solutions to these problems, and come up with good cred-informed governance mechanisms. Thereā€™s been a fair amount of discussion on our forums, for example check out this thread on separation of powers. However, I donā€™t want us to put any governance system in place before weā€™ve had a chance to reason through the edge cases, and have used it experimentally for several months; the risk of structural damage to the project is too high. As such, Iā€™m the Temporary Benevolent Dictator (TBD), and I can unilaterally make changes to the weights and algorithm to keep the system working. In practice, I avoid making unilateral decisons, and hope to retire the TBD role in favor of being an executive with clearer checks and balances.

You can think of this as an instance of progressive decentralization.

Totally! I think weā€™re really aligned and look forward to supporting each other throughout the long journey we have ahead of us.

Great! Iā€™ll take a look and reply shortly.

What brings you here ?

I credit @peth for hooking me with Twitter bait about a new world built on top of the broken one we currently reside, octopus memeā€™s, and the promise of doing things differently this time :sob:

What do you most like about MetaGame?

I like that MetaGame is not about me, itā€™s not about making money, itā€™s not about competing or trying to dominate the world or some segment of the market. What IT IS about, well thatā€™s constantly evolving thing by design, but the capture of positive sum value creation, the experimentation of alternative governance structures, the open and chaotic nature that encourages constantly experiments and so much more that keeps me on my toes and seems to attract the most interesting people are a few of my favorite elements of MetaGame.

What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

Well I do all that I can for the ā€œMetaā€ community, that entails community managment, on-boarding and sales engineering, as well as scouting new opportunities and making connections with other communities as often as possible. I also collab at Raid Guild, and MetaCartel.

What kind of things do you generally like doing?

Being useful, mentally challenged, and making people laugh :grimacing:

What makes you happy?

I found out about MG through chat in the recent Noncon. Got pulled in by the memery, staying around for world building.

Iā€™ve recently picked up my old hobby of using spare time to contribute to open source projects or communities Iā€™m a part of (maintaining infrastructure / moderating / creating tools to help the community communicate and grow). Iā€™m not a programmer by trade but I love to learn new things and tinker.

  • What kind of things do you generally like doing?

Things that keep me focused and things that keep me moving.

  • What makes you happy?

Interacting with people who are willing to put work into changing the world for the better rather than just complaining about it.

  • What do you want from MetaGame?

To break stuff until we figure out a better way of doing them compared to the mess weā€™re in right now. If there isnā€™t, go back to breaking stuff.

  • What do you offer in return, what are your skills?

I have a background in international relations and economics, and years of experience in finance, accounting, and compliance, but my real interest is in problem solving of any kind using teams. Iā€™m not a specialist but I like knowing a little bit about everything and being able to zoom in / zoom out to help focus the specialized skills and energies of others.

I landed in here when I set a sail into ethereum exploring various projects thatā€™s being built. The idea behind the fam is what I admire (a different socioeconomic system) while I love the innovation & creativity that the community brings in.

What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

Well, am working on a lot as I get introduced to various new projects each day. Learning is what I do on a daily consistent basis and am proud of it.

What kind of things do you generally like doing?

What brings you here, what do you most like about MetaGame?

I was actually completely unaware of MetaGame until @peth contacted me on Twitter seeking donations for the Gitcoin grants in January 2020. I spent some time reading over the concept and thought it was cool so decided to donate some DAI for that grant.

The phrase ā€œreal life MMO-RPGā€ stuck out to me and I though it was a cool idea. The whole concept sounds fascinating and Iā€™m here to learn more, see how it all plays out and maybe, if I can, contribute.

Why am I only posting now? Actually came about from working on a bounty to work on setting up a Discord bot I noticed advertised on an Ethereum related newsletterā€¦ Iā€™m not entirely sure which one if Iā€™m honest. That lead to me realising it was for the MetaGame Discord server and that lead me down the rabbit hole to spend more time to learn more about MetaGame.

What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

Currently working for Argent in their Android team and been there since Sept '18. Feels really awesome to know I was part of the team which helped create the app which brought the Argent wallet to Android.

Recently had been spending time working with node-red to build a Discord bot for MetaGame Discord server. First time ever doing anything with Discord APIs or node-red so itā€™s been a fun challenging learning about them both.

Thought itā€™d be easy having taken a brief look over node-red only to realise Iā€™d have to implement my own node-red nodes to make it all work because the Discord node-red module didnā€™t have everything which was needed by the requirements.

Apart from that Iā€™ve spent some time in recent years tinkering with Flutter and made a useful package which has helped a lot of people in the Flutter community.

What kind of things do you generally like doing?

I enjoy coding otherwise I wouldnā€™t be doing it for a career. Prefer to be coding mobile apps but not afraid to try something completely new if I have an interest in it.

I also like spending time learning and researching new projects within the Ethereum space.

Got a number of other stuff like doing or watching: gaming / podcasts / working out / poker / football / MMA

What makes you happy?

At my happiest when Iā€™ve finally solved a coding problem / bug which I couldnā€™t get for hoursā€¦ absolute bliss.

Doing a kick ass workout. :muscle:

Spending time catching up with friends.

Spending time to kick back and recharge the batteries either on holiday or a lazy weekend just gaming / binge watching TV shows.

What do you want from MetaGame?

Honestly not sure, I didnā€™t come here to get something from MetaGame, I came here because curiosity lead me here.

Maybe the better question is what does MetaGame want me to want from it?

What do you offer in return?

My thoughts / suggestions at the very least and hopefully will be able to contribute towards some of the projects depending on what is being built.

Iā€™ve been lurking in similar circles for a while. A colleague of mine recommended looking into MetaGame as we were doing gamification research. The Articles, Memes and Aesthetic felt right.

Strategy, Ops, and Most of A lot of things at Pocket Network (COO), proud of it because its legit a decentralized infrastructure network so that DApps can actually be DApps.

What kind of things do you generally like doing?
Thinking work, creative problem solving, and communicating. I like weaving narratives and helping conversations evolve productively. Outside of that staying active and having interesting/silly conversations.

(My friends and I the other night sat for like an hour brainstorming this over beers ā€œYou are dropped into the Renaissance era and can only bring 3 items, each under 50 pounds. What would your goal be, where exactly would you drop and when, what 3 items would you bring, and how exactly would you go about accomplishing your goalā€).

What makes you happy?
Typical human things like good food, scenery and company, solving problems, being acknowledged, laughing, having my mind blown, etc.

What do you want from MetaGame?
Mostly curious so learning and interacting but I will say Iā€™m keen on the sustainability physical community stuff(because what the world needs desperately and Is why I got into crypto), the brand factory stuff because itā€™s just plain cool, and the tools being developed that have broader applications.

Iā€™m a freelancer, currently looking for some open source project to contribute to.

One of my old projects that I would like to share here is Sokoban Player. It was fun learning project for me. The concept is simple, itā€™s a tool to play any sokoban level you want. Hi everyone,

What brings you here, what do you most like about MetaGame?

I started to hear about this project during Gitcoin grants 4, and after reading the first posts about building an MMO coordination game of co-owners within the Ethereum community, it really caught my attention. What I like the most is the idea of building a community of people with common intrinsic motivations the goes beyond economic self-interests and has aligned values. Always be a Meta Sapien! Encourage others to also become one

What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

Iā€™m currently working on decentralized data markets for R&D in emerging economies using Ocean + other on/off-chain protocols.

What kind of things do you generally like doing?

Playing around with new tech/tools and contribute to OSS

What makes you happy?

When I start contributing to something that will allow me to learn and gain more skills, rather than the monetary reward when delivering

What do you want from MetaGame?

To become a reality where communities start to become more Meta Sapiens and contribute to the collective-intelligence

Iā€™m a full-stack dev with experience in Ethereum Development and Data Science. Iā€™ll love to contribute to the codebase & engage with the community.

I got sucked in by some friends (mostly due to cross over with SourceCred contributors) and stuck around because i find the messy mixture of social and technical advancement both interesting and important.

  • What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?

Transferring formal methods from engineering (estimation signal processing and control theory from aerospace, defense and robotics mostly) to support emerging institutional patterns. Mostly remixing things from PhD in this group https://jadbabaie.mit.edu/research/ (while Ali was still at Penn) with things iā€™ve learned since.

research and design at the intersection of social and technical.

hard fought simplicity ā€“ finding the solution which is simplest but no simpler and putting it into practice.

Iā€™m a big contributor in SourceCred, and met the MetaGame crew at ETHDenver (I was the one who curated the space where we had our secret hackathon). Iā€™ve been adjacent for a long time, but last night I fell down the 8 pillar rabbit hole. It blew my mind just how much our two projects need each other and how hard weā€™re both working to realize the same future.

Iā€™m deeeeply invested in helping SourceCred design itā€™s community and create the kind of wholehearted collaboration neccessary to build our dream with integrity.

Iā€™m an artist, a dancer, an organizer, a communicator (and a million other things). Anything artistic, thatā€™s my jam. Iā€™ve lived my life pursuing the question of, what does it mean to be alive? and what can we DO with that to make ourselves and our environments wholehearted and satisfied?
That spans from wtf even is gender? to why are working environments so damn hellish? to what makes a human feel satisfied and fulfilled?

Safety, autonomy, challenge, creativity, exploration, connection, support, collaboration.

Honestly? I want to be around. I want to watch your community and identify the ways yā€™all are being geniusā€™ and where you miss the mark when it comes to building communities. I want to gather data, and I want to build friendships. And tbh, while I know itā€™s a big part of the MetaGame infrastructure, I have very little interest in jumping through hoops or shilling.

Iā€™m not a techie, Iā€™m not the usual audience for working in crypto-economics or software engineering. But that makes me all the more valuable imho. Iā€™m focused on building strong and authentic communities, and by allowing me to be a part of yours and learn your ways, youā€™ll likely receive some useful insights that wonā€™t come from the other folks you generally attract.
Also, if you need to throw a dope event (especially on a smaller and more intimate scale) Iā€™m your kid.

Iā€™ve technically been on your discord for some time, but havenā€™t engaged yet. Iā€™m also deeply embedded in the SourceCred discord. Send me a message or give me an @ in either of those forums and Iā€™ll likely see it.

Just moved to Boulder, CO post ETHDenver and organizing CredCon.

Iā€™ve been wanting to involve more with the broader MetaCartel ecosystem for a looong time. MetaGame seems like a great place to start. My current focus to play with Web3 collab and curation tools, just like SourceCred!

  • Worked @ Aragon for a year, mainly as a community coordinator for the ā€”now defunctā€” Flock and Nest grant programs.
  • My current projects
    • Hacking on a new expert DAO for COVID related things
    • Thinking and writing on Twitter @albiverse

Really love to think hard about humans and the future from the perspective of crypto. Canā€™t help but idealising a world to fix things.

MetaGame seems fresh and new, a great time to get involved. What really caught me is the experimentation with SourceCred and the focus on a ā€œfreelancerā€ collective. I really like this approach, thatā€™s the way iā€™d like to work. Many people with different skills spontaneously teaming up around projects and coordinating thanks to the online community/dao playbook.

I can write, coordinate, connect people. I can organize projects and Iā€™m working on my technical chops as well these days hacking on stuff.

Things weā€™d love to know:

  • What brings you here, what do you most like about MetaGame?
Largely curiosity- Iā€™ve been looking for communities of like-minded people, but havenā€™t found a whole lot that seem to be, well, thinking outside the box enough. I like that the MetaGame concept is willing to be bold and ambitious, without regard to past status quoā€™s and the opinion of people who are incentivised to play the non-MetaGame.

  • What are you currently working on or are proud to have been working on?
Iā€™ve got a few big research ideas, but Iā€™m currently building out a legitimate blog, a public digital garden of my learning and ideas, miscellaneous likes and things.

  • What kind of things do you generally like doing?
I spend a lot of my time these days, outside of the job hunt, learning mathematics, physics and distributed systems, I made music for 10+ years and plan to get back to that soon.

  • What makes you happy?
The small moments in life. The first sip of the mornings coffee while looking out the window as soft rain patters on a pink rose bush. The big moments, as well though- I love watching underdogs and outcasts win.
    Finally:

  • What do you want from MetaGame?
I want to meet like-minded people who want to do cool things in the process of dismantling the dilapidated systems of human civilization. Itā€™s time.

  • What do you offer in return, what are your skills?
Iā€™m good at writing, so if you need help with words, I got you. I also code, so if programming needs done, I got you. Iā€™m also totally down to pick up something random I know nothing about and sink/swim (hopefully the latter). That kind of thing excites me as opposed to scares me.
